In anticipation of the Army's major announcement today regarding the future of the Comanche helicopter, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is sharing the following documents with reporters: Pentagon's Department of Operational Test and Evaluation 2003 Annual Report section on the Comanche; POGO's letter to White House to encouraging Comanche program to be cut; POGO's Fighting With Failures Fact Sheet on RAH-66 Comanche Helicopter, January 22, 2004. POGO has encouraged the Pentagon and Congress to eliminate the Comanche program given its troubled history. POGO's statement regarding the announcement: "The Comanche program has been plagued with wildly unrealistic technological expectations and the bugaboo of pay more and get less. Cancellation of this program would free up funds for weapons that work and meet our country's true national security needs," said Eric Miller, Senior Defense Investigator of POGO. POGO investigates, exposes, and seeks to remedy systemic abuses of power, mismanagement, and subservience by the federal government to powerful special interests. Founded in 1981, POGO is a politically-independent, nonprofit watchdog that strives to promote a government that is accountable to the citizenry. # # # #
